The Bray Hunt Pony Club is a large and very active branch of the Irish Pony Club. Image We currently have about 140 members, mostly from the north Wicklow and south Dublin areas.  The Irish Pony Club is the main equestrian organisation for providing training in all disciplines of equestrian activities in the Country.  There are close on sixty branches spread throughout the country.  There are over 4,000 members between the ages of five and twenty-three.

 OBJECTIVES:

The objectives of the Irish Pony Club are the same today as they were when the Pony Club was first established and they are as follows:

  • To encourage young people to rideImage and to learn to enjoy
all kinds of sport connected with ponies and riding.
  • To give instruction in riding and horsemanship and to educate members to look after and to take proper care of their animals.
  •  To promote the highest ideals of sportsmanship, citizenship and loyalty, and to create strength of character and self discipline.

WHAT WE DO:

Most of our activities take place at various locations between Kilternan in the north and Ashford in the south.  We are very lucky to have many kind landowners in our area who make us very welcome.  Our activities include rallies, camps, show jumping, dressage, hunter trials, horse trials, combined training, tetrathlon (swim, shoot, run, ride), mounted games and non-competitive fun activities.  The highlights of the year for most members are the annual camps, which are held in July.  We have a three-day camp for younger members and for over tens we have a five-day camp in the wonderful surroundings of Kilruddery estate.  Rallies are the backbone of the Pony Club. Image
A rally is where members collect at a particular venue and for two or three hours they receive instruction, play games, have fun and make friends.  We also have unmounted rallies where the ponies are left at home and we concentrate on stable management!  These are particularly useful for helping prepare for Pony Club Tests, which are optional proficiency tests that members can work for.

If you are a new member you may find it takes a while to become familiar,Image so when you come along to your first outing,
why not introduce yourself.  We will do our best to make you feel welcome.  If you are an existing member, and see a new face, why not introduce yourself.    Summer is our busiest time with rallies, camps and many other activities, competitive and non-competitive.  We also have activities during the Christmas and Easter holidays, such as Hunter Trials and Mock Hunt.

See our Current Newsletter for a taste of what we do and browse through our Website for lots of useful information.  Please contact Mary Boyd Tel:01-2017642  Mob :087-6812838 with any queries or comments you may have.
